It’s been exactly 3 years since I last wrote here. Now I find myself back on this blog and back in Diani. This coastal town seems to bring out the observer in me.
Or it could be the fact that when settling into a new life, you notice more. Differences you sense make you more attentive, and what is mundane to the residents looks fascinating to you. Despite my time in Kenya, I am still very much an outsider. First living as an expat, and then a visitor. Now, recently married to the Kenyan who kept bringing me back to this wonderful country, I am transitioning from tourist to resident.
To truly inhabit a place, one has to inhabit the details of it. The specifics. Sights, sounds, textures, tastes, haunts and habits. The faces. I intend to capture these as I go.
